New York

Hotels

A Hospitality Company Ranging from studios to three-bedroom apartments with all the trimmings any urbanite would normally have. Maid service is available on request and with lots of options to choose from, you can pretty much pick and choose your neighbourhood. (under $150)

Chelsea Hotel Its fame as the first hotel/apartment complex never really caught on, but Sid Vicious killing his girlfriend in one of the bedrooms did. Ever since then, the Chelsea Hotel has been both infamous and a regular old hotel. Rooms range from those with shared bathrooms to rather plush suites, and the company can’t be beat. The building is still a hangout for creative types, and the odd installation art experiment definitely keeps the interest level high. (under $150)

City Lights Lists up to 400 hosted and un-hosted apartments in NYC, the difference usually being someone renting out their kid’s bedroom after they’ve left home or a fully furnished apartment with no one at home. (under $150)

Four Seasons The IM Pei Art Deco-designed hotel is one of New York’s greatest landmark architectural achievements. Soaring columns and 52 floors of high class luxury hotel with a 5,000-square-foot spa await guests who require pampering or just to de-stress from hectic business meetings. There is a fully equipped business centre and an astonishing 10,000 square feet of cutting edsge meeting space available to those brave enough to expense account it. Fifty Seven Fifty Seven restaurant in the lobby serves up contemporary, refined American cuisine. (over $200)

Gamut Group Most of its offerings are in Midtown and on the Upper West and Upper East sides. Some apartments come furnished, others not, and they even have a selection of onenighters for those who are on the go but can’t handle hotels. (under $150)

Herald Square Hotel This is a no-frills budget hotel located in the old Life magazine building. Beaux Arts touches still grace the interior and exterior, and rooms are small, clean and cheap for the location. The staff is friendly and helpful and can arrange for most business needs to be taken care of within a quick walk from the hotel. (under $150)

Holiday Inn Wall Street The first hotel in NYC to get connected, all of HIWS rooms have T1 connections, ironing boards and coffee-makers. This hotel caters to business and is located in the heart of it. There is a 24-hour executive boardroom, self-service, with a media wall and seating for up to 50. Rooms can be requested with PCs running Microsoft business apps and office supplies gratis. A S.M.A.R.T. Floor (Smart Machines Are Right There) is available for guests in need of whatever technology they may require. ($150 - $200)

Hotel Giraffe This chic hotel has adapted to its proximity to Silicon Alley and installed wifi service throughout its 1920s-inspired décor. Having only seven rooms per floor gives it an apartment building feel, and the ten-foot ceilings in rooms are something of an anomaly, particularly in this space-crazed town. Public areas are equally airy, and a feeling of spaciousness is surprisingly prevalent. Sciuscia, the Mediterranean eatery located downstairs, ate up the reviews upon opening, and has since kept the tables full. ($150 - $200)

Hudson Hotel The one-stop spot for visitors in NYC, The Hudson is an enormous affair with upwards of 750 rooms, a private garden for guests only, a 15th floor cocktail lounge with terrace, a curated library/cognac bar and the much-talked-about Hudson Cafeteria by Jeffrey Chodorow. Conference rooms and all the technical gadgetry you’d ever need can be provided on request. A very hip, glass-ceiling disco is also available for those celebrating closing a deal. (under $150)

Larchmont Hotel For the location, the price can’t be beat. Clean rooms and a bed is about all you get for that low price, however. Ask for a private bath before giving up the credit card, or you may end up sharing one with your floor. Located between Chelsea, the West Village and Union Square, visitors are privy to some of the most desirable neighbourhoods to explore. (under $150)
